North Charleston police have arrested Richard Yarborough, 57, after finding fentanyl and methamphetamine in his vehicle near hotel strip activity along Ashley Phosphate Road.
How the Arrest Happened
- Officers were patrolling the area for narcotics‑related activity when they saw Yarborough driving slowly and acting suspiciously; he abruptly pulled into a closed business lot, claiming he was trying to reach a nearby lodge.
- During the stop, he seemed very nervous, struggled to produce ID, and when told to step out, officers saw an open toolbox in the back seat containing a small bag of crystalline material.
- Testing confirmed about 0.57 grams of a substance that was positive for both fentanyl and methamphetamine; he was charged with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine and booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
For a small amount in South Carolina, this is treated severely because fentanyl is incredibly potent and tightly controlled; possession with intent can trigger felony‑level penalties and long prison exposure under state drug laws.
