A 31-year-old woman, Tashae Goodman, has been charged with first-degree reckless homicide and chronic child neglect after her 3-month-old infant died from a fentanyl overdose, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WISN.
Incident Details
- On March 22, 2026, Goodman dialed 911, claiming she had slept on her baby, who was not breathing.
- First responders attempted lifesaving measures, but the infant was pronounced dead.
- The baby reportedly had no medical conditions and was fed formula every three to four hours.
Investigation Findings
- Goodman alleged that the baby had become wedged between couch cushions and was bleeding from the nose and head before she called 911.
- Investigators collected the baby’s bottle from the last feeding for testing.
- Toxicology results released April 30 showed traces of fentanyl in the bottle and fentanyl and morphine in the infant’s bloodstream.
Allegations and Context
- In an interview on May 15, Goodman claimed the drugs in the baby’s system were due to her own drug use during pregnancy and the residue in the bottle resulted from an unclean home.
- Calls between Goodman and the baby’s father, who was in jail, indicated she informed him of the death and later asked whether she should go to detox.
- Goodman’s 10-year-old son told authorities she was often under the influence of drugs. He noted she had overdosed on May 12 and had been late picking him up from school, during which she was administered Narcan.
Legal Status
Goodman faces charges of first-degree reckless homicide and chronic child neglect. No information about bail or court dates has been released.
