A 65-year-old Missouri man was allegedly stabbed to death by his wife after facing years of abuse and threats, according to police and family members. The incident happened on April 23 in north St. Louis.
Police said Alonzo McDaniel died after being stabbed in the chest during an argument at home. Court documents state that his wife, Evelyn McDaniel, admitted to the stabbing.
Sister Says Family Tried to Warn Him
Alonzo’s sister, Tina-Marie McDaniel, said the family had repeatedly asked him to leave the relationship because they feared something terrible would happen. She described her brother as a gentle and caring man who never wanted violence.
According to her, Evelyn had threatened Alonzo many times in the past. She said the family believes those threats eventually turned deadly.
Friend Heard the Incident During Phone Call
One of Alonzo’s close friends, James Moton, said he was on a phone call with him shortly before the incident happened. Moton recalled hearing an argument in the background before Alonzo screamed that he had been stabbed.
After the scream, the line reportedly went silent. Moton later said the experience left him heartbroken because he considered Alonzo like a brother.
Family Says Victim Never Fought Back
Tina-Marie said her brother was physically much bigger than Evelyn but refused to use force against her. She explained that he never wanted to hit or hurt his wife even during difficult situations.
The family believes his calm nature may have made him vulnerable to continued abuse.
Neighbors Remember Him as a Helpful Man
People living in the neighborhood described Alonzo as a hardworking truck driver who was respected by many in the community. Neighbors said he often helped elderly residents, supported families in need, and guided local teenagers.
Friends and relatives said he was known for his kindness and willingness to help others without expecting anything in return.
Wife Charged in the Case
Evelyn McDaniel, 65, has been charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action. She is currently being held without bond, and authorities have not yet announced a court date.
