Ahmeel Fowler, 21, was convicted this week in Illinois on three counts of murder and aggravated kidnapping for strangling his girlfriend Ja’nya Murphy, 21, and causing the death of her 1-year-old daughter Jaclyn Dobbs in Nov. 2021.
The Crimes
Murphy missed work; family reported her missing. Welfare check at their Wheeling apartment (300 block Inland Dr.) found bleach smell, her body (homicide by asphyxiation/strangulation). Surveillance showed Fowler leaving ~2:40 a.m., driving to Hammond, IN retention pond (~50 miles away) ~3:40 a.m.—Jaclyn’s body found days later (undetermined manner, hypothermia from low 40s exposure, no drowning signs).
Fowler fled to parents’ home, then Missouri; arrested Springfield Nov. 9. Troubled relationship; not Jaclyn’s dad.
Court Outcome
Cook County jury guilty; sentencing April 20—likely life. Chilling double tragedy from domestic rage.
