A little girl that should be here: Beef with 7-year-old's older brother causes youths to shoot into home, killing kid and injuring her mother, police say.

Heartbreaking drive-by tragedy in Atlanta: Two teens, Preston Smith (19) and Steven Richardson (17), charged with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and more after shooting into a home on Tiger Flowers Drive NW, killing 7-year-old Zoey Price and wounding her 44-year-old mother on Feb. 24.

The Shooting

Police responded ~9:45-10 p.m. to gunfire; Zoey and mom rushed to hospital—girl pronounced dead, mother survived. Stemmed from phone argument between Smith and Zoey’s older brother; Smith allegedly threatened to “shoot up the house,” recruited Richardson, drove by firing into the home.

Both in custody: Richardson surrendered Feb. 27 after search warrant; Smith turned himself in March 2 to Fulton County Jail. Additional charges on Richardson include firearm possession under 18 and child cruelty.

Victim’s Memory

Zoey, described by Mayor Andre Dickens as a “bright, compassionate, fun kid,” cheered and played basketball in city programs—life cut short by “senseless violence.” Empty seat at dinner and school; family mourns teamwork lessons lost.

Deputy Chief Prenzinna Spann and Chief Darin Schierbaum vowed justice. Collateral damage from teen beefs—too common. Fits your U.S. crime news interest; thoughts on gun violence impact?
