Three women were found dead in rural Wayne County, Utah, on March 4, 2026—two on a hiking trail near Capitol Reef National Park and one at a residence in the Lyman or Torrey area. The victims were aged approximately 30s, 60s, and 80s; their identities remain withheld pending family notifications. Utah authorities treated the deaths as a triple homicide.
Suspect Arrest
A male suspect was captured early on March 5 in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, after a multi-state chase. Investigators tracked one of the victims’ vehicles—a white 2022 Subaru Outback—from southern Utah through Arizona to Colorado, where it was abandoned. The individual was taken into custody without incident using license plate readers, a drone, and K-9 units; he possessed a handgun and large knife.
Investigation Details
The sequence began with the first victim killed at her home, her car stolen, then used to reach the trailhead where two hikers were murdered; the suspect then fled in another victim’s vehicle. No known connections existed between the suspect and victims, described as random acts possibly for “convenience”; shell casings from .45 and 20-gauge weapons were found at the trail. No ongoing public threat remains, with crime scenes processed by Utah State Bureau of Investigation.
