CHP is hunting the white semi-truck driver who fatally struck 22-year-old Alejandro Covarrubias on February 27, 2026, around 11:20 p.m. while he changed a flat tire on the southbound I-5 shoulder south of Templin Highway/Lake Hughes Road off-ramp in Castaic, CA (about 35 miles north of LA).

The Crash

  • Alejandro and his girlfriend pulled over in their white Toyota Corolla due to a rear driver’s-side flat.
  • As he worked just steps from her, the tractor-trailer slammed into him and the car, killing him instantly from blunt force trauma at the scene.
