A Michigan couple, Auturo Bazan-Perez, 43, and Dulce Crystal Bazan Castillo, 42, along with their 21-year-old son Carlos Bazan Hernandez, face first-degree child abuse and torture charges for allegedly starving and tormenting their 9- and 11-year-old sons nearly to death.
Abuse Details
The boys, weighing just 33 and 43 pounds (half normal for their ages), were locked in a bedroom with screwed-shut, painted-over windows and fed only sporadic rice after being pulled from school in September 2025. The parents blamed a “medical condition” when the younger boy arrived emaciated and bruised at a hospital on November 17; he was intubated and airlifted. Their siblings (ages 1 and 4) were healthy and also removed by Child Protective Services.
Legal Proceedings
Prosecutors detailed “military-style” punishments like forced pushups on starving kids, deemed impossible by medical experts who called it the worst neglect in decades—ribs and vertebrae visible. All three defendants waived or faced hearings and are held without bond, next in court March 12.
