Jack Daniel Gutierrez, 24, faces charges of aggravated battery with a weapon causing great bodily harm after allegedly slashing a man’s throat on a Miami Beach shoreline. The unprovoked attack stemmed from the victim refusing to share a cigarette or lend his phone on October 23, 2025. Gutierrez remains in custody without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of early 2026 reports.
Attack Details
The incident unfolded near the 1700 block of Collins Avenue, where the victim sat by a lifeguard tower and was approached by Gutierrez, who first requested a cigarette and then a phone. After being denied both, Gutierrez ambushed the victim from behind with a knife or bladed weapon, inflicting a severe laceration “from ear to ear” that caused heavy bleeding. The victim used Siri to call 911 and later identified Gutierrez in a photo lineup, aiding his arrest later that Thursday.
Legal Status
At the time, Gutierrez was on probation for a prior weapons charge, which may influence sentencing. He was arrested without incident following a police alert and held pending a court appearance originally scheduled for Monday after his booking. No motive beyond the refused requests has been specified, and the victim’s condition post-hospitalization remains unreported in available accounts.
