A 17-year-old boy, Joshua Gipson Jr., died after being shot in what appears to be crossfire during a New Year’s Eve shooting on North Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard just before midnight on December 31, 2025. He was out with friends visiting the beach when caught between two individuals exchanging gunfire, according to witnesses and family. Initially hospitalized, his family hoped for recovery, but he succumbed to injuries; relatives described him as a “ball of sunshine,” good brother, and aspiring Virginia Tech student.​
