A gold Toyota RAV4 was stopped in the northbound center median south of Vista del Lago Road when a blue Nissan Rogue, carrying two adults and six minors, lost control and struck its rear around 3 p.m. Three minors were ejected from the Nissan; two died at the scene despite lifesaving efforts, while others received hospital treatment. The Toyota occupants waited safely with a family member.​

Nissan driver Jorge Preciado faced arrest at the scene for felony child endangerment under California Penal Code 273a(a) and booking at Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Station in Santa Clarita.
