Taynara Souza Santos, a 31-year-old mother of two from São Paulo, Brazil, died on December 24, 2025, after nearly a month in a coma following a brutal hit-and-run.
Incident Overview
On November 29, Santos was allegedly struck by a Volkswagen driven by acquaintance Douglas Alves da Silva, 26, after leaving a bar; security footage showed her being dragged hundreds of feet along a street onto the Marginal Tietê highway. Witnesses and a passenger claimed the act was intentional, driven by jealousy, with the driver ignoring pleas to stop despite her being under the vehicle.
Medical Outcome
Santos suffered catastrophic injuries requiring multiple surgeries, including bilateral leg amputations, thigh amputation for reconstruction, tracheostomy, and plastic surgery at Hospital das Clínicas. She briefly emerged from her coma but deteriorated post-surgery and passed away on Christmas Eve, leaving a 12-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter.
Arrest and Charges
Police arrested Alves da Silva on November 30 after identifying him via video; he reportedly tried to grab an officer’s gun and was shot during the incident. Initially charged with attempted femicide, the case will upgrade to homicide following her death, with him in custody.
