Jamie Michele Bradley-Brun, 40, a South Carolina mother, received a 50-year prison sentence for murdering her 6-year-old daughter by drowning and attempting to drown an 8-year-old daughter.
Incident Details
On May 19, 2023, Bradley-Brun forced Mackay Bradley-Brun into a bathtub, held her head underwater until she drowned, then dressed the body in a “funeral dress” and placed it on a bed. She next targeted her 8-year-old, who screamed, alerting an older sister who helped her escape and call 911 from outside the Saint Helena Island home.
Sentencing
Beaufort County deputies arrived around 1:25 a.m. following the emergency call. Bradley-Brun pleaded guilty to murder and received a concurrent 30-year term for the attempted drowning. Sentencing occurred December 18, 2025, via the 14th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Prosecutor’s Statement
Deputy Solicitor Mary Jones stressed the deliberate nature of the acts, rejecting claims of accident, mental health issues, or alcoholism as defenses under South Carolina law. The family had three daughters; two survived due to the older one’s intervention.
