Police responded to the 2100 block of South Beechwood Street around 8:30 p.m., finding the child unresponsive with severe bruising and injuries across her body. She was rushed to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia but pronounced dead shortly after, with her death ruled a homicide.​
Prosecutors indicated signs of prior abuse, possible use of objects in the beating, and airway compromise leading to suffocation, describing it as a brutal attack by the victim’s mother’s boyfriend.​

Hernandez faces murder, endangering the welfare of a child, possession of an instrument of crime, reckless endangerment, and is held without bail, with a preliminary hearing set for January 5, 2026. Anthony Lowrie, 21, and Alycia McNeill, 20, face obstruction of justice for lying to police; the mother was present but not charged as of December 17.​
