Justin Golden, a 21-year-old from Jacksonville, Florida, received a 30-year prison sentence for aggravated manslaughter after pleading guilty in September to charges stemming from the death of his 8-month-old son, Pablo.

Incident Details

The tragedy occurred on January 25 near the intersection of McDuff Avenue South and Lenox Avenue during an argument between Golden and Pablo’s mother over baby wipes and money while en route to Walmart. Golden removed the infant from his GMC truck, placed him in the roadway, got back in the vehicle, and drove off, running over the child.

Witnesses observed the event, with one initially mistaking the baby for a bag of trash until seeing movement after the truck passed over.

Court Proceedings

Prosecutors emphasized Golden’s awareness of the danger, while his defense sought leniency, supported by family. The judge imposed the maximum term, remarking that drivers show more care for road wildlife than Golden did for his son.

Golden apologized in court, admitting he failed as a father despite lacking intent to kill.
