Silvia Vilchez, a 50-year-old mother from Graysville, Tennessee, was killed in late October 2025, with her charred remains found in the family’s backyard fire pit. Her 18-year-old son, Gabriel Vilchez, and 64-year-old stepfather, David Gardiner, face charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse after allegedly beating her with a baseball bat in the home office and burning her body.
Investigation Details
Officers visited the Snyder Loop home on October 28 after a missing person report, where Gabriel and Gardiner claimed Silvia was in Costa Rica. A property search on October 30 revealed blood splatter on walls, desks, and a printer, plus stained carpet and a vacuum with apparent blood. Gabriel confessed to the beating while Gardiner watched and participated, then dragging and burning the body; Gardiner denied involvement, claiming he slept through it.
Court Proceedings
At a December 8 preliminary hearing, evidence included Silvia’s phone found submerged nearby, confirming the brutality. Gardiner received a $250,000 bond; Gabriel is held without bail. No motive has been disclosed publicly.
Community Impact
Known as “Gaby,” Silvia was cherished at Lewis Chapel Church of God for her enriching presence and had brought Gabriel to the U.S. from Costa Rica to escape hardships, despite his reported aggression. Neighbors and family expressed profound shock over the betrayal.
