A 4-year-old boy named Roland Moore in Jacksonville, Florida, suffered severe injuries from a dog attack on November 20, 2025, while waiting for the school bus with his mother, Tracy Moore. Two dogs initially appeared friendly, allowing the pair to pet them, but suddenly attacked, biting off Roland’s left ear, which was left hanging from his head, and also injuring Tracy with minor bites as she tried to shield him.
Incident Details
The attack occurred outside their home in the Normandy area on Jacksonville’s Westside, near Marquis Drive. A responding Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office officer could not identify the dogs’ owner, though witnesses saw the animals—a brown and a white dog—run into a neighbor’s yard. Tracy and family members fought off the dogs, but Roland required a week in Wolfson Children’s Hospital, including leech therapy, before doctors amputated the unsalvageable ear the day before Thanksgiving.
Recovery and Aftermath
Roland, now home, faces trauma including night terrors, panic attacks, and fear of dogs, even the family’s own pet; he cannot get a prosthetic ear until age 6. Tracy launched a GoFundMe for medical and legal costs, stating the dogs were later euthanized. Animal Care and Protective Services took custody of the dogs, but no updates confirm owner charges.
