"She goes from 1 to 100": According to her father, the woman who learned in court that she was responsible for her 7-year-old's death in a 90 mph collision has "anxiety issues."

Delyshia Molette, 34, from Alabama, faces manslaughter charges after a high-speed car crash on November 4, 2025, killed her 7-year-old son and injured her 11-year-old. She appeared in Mobile County court on Tuesday for a hearing where more details emerged.

Prosecutors allege the sequence began on November 5 when Molette attempted to shoplift hamburger meat and dog toys from a Publix in Semmes, threatened employees with a weapon, assaulted an officer by gouging his eyes and biting his finger, and fled on foot. After police located her at home, she entered her Infiniti SUV with her two sons and drove toward Georgia to evade child removal by authorities, leading to a chase reaching 90 mph before crashing into a light pole.

Molette learned of her younger son’s death during her initial bond hearing, reacting with shock by shouting confirmation of the loss. Her father, Douglas Molette, defended her post-hearing, attributing her escalation to family anxiety issues, describing it as going “from 1 to 100,” and calling the charges excessive while insisting her actions were not intentional.

She also faces charges of resisting arrest, attempting to elude, robbery, and assault, with bonds totaling $112,000; the case has been referred to a grand jury.
