A Georgia woman, Sophia Williams, 43, was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus 10 years for the murder of her 4-year-old son, Anthony Vice. This sentence was announced on December 10, 2025, by DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston, following Williams’ conviction earlier in August on multiple charges including Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Cruelty to Children in the First Degree, and Aggravated Battery.
Anthony was found unresponsive with a fatal head injury on March 6, 2022, after suffering abuse evidenced by new and old bruises all over his body. Williams had admitted to disciplining her son with physical force, including hitting him with household items, and denied responsibility for the head injuries.
A 13-year-old present during the abuse testified that Anthony was “whooped” and appeared dizzy before becoming unresponsive. Despite signs of serious injury, Williams delayed seeking medical help—only calling 911 hours later, after Anthony stopped breathing—citing fear of authorities due to the bruises on him.
The official cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. Medical evidence showed Anthony might have survived had medical treatment been sought earlier.
