Police claim that because the mother had early dementia, the man attempted to kill her with a frying pan

Keith Evan Woodward, 53, from Coral Springs, Florida, faces an attempted murder charge after allegedly attacking his 82-year-old mother with a frying pan and attempting to smother her on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

The incident stemmed from frustration over her early dementia diagnosis and need for constant care; while searching for a caretaker’s number around 11:20 a.m., Woodward grabbed the pan, struck her in her bedroom, and tried to suffocate her with pillows during a violent struggle.

His mother fought back by pushing, pinching, and yelling that she couldn’t breathe, eventually escaping to the floor, running outside, and prompting Woodward—who chased her initially—to stop, feel guilty, and call police himself, reportedly saying he was “going to hell.”

She was hospitalized alert and conscious but with severe bruising, as doctors assessed further injuries. Woodward remains in Broward County Jail without bond.
