Tariq Thomas, 24, of Sioux City, Iowa, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to willful injury causing serious injury. The conviction stems from a violent incident on October 11, 2025, where he stabbed his cousin, Saville Thomas, also 24, in the head and collarbone following a day of drinking.
The attack occurred in the basement of a home on South Lyons Street after an argument escalated. Tariq used a large butcher knife, stabbing Saville hard enough to break the knife handle. Despite his injuries—including the knife blade still embedded in his head—Saville managed to leave the home and staggered about 20 minutes away before authorities found him.
Saville underwent a six-hour surgery to remove the knife and was later released from the hospital.
Mariah Thomas, 34, who was present at the scene, is charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly trying to clean up blood evidence inside the home and on the driveway. She pleaded not guilty and is scheduled for a court appearance on December 18.
