Mom Watches in Horror As Ex-Cop Allegedly Kills Their 11-Year-Old Son on Home Camera. Hours Later, He’s Killed by Police

Marvin Morales, a 40-year-old former Sacramento County sheriff’s deputy, was fatally shot by police after a high-speed chase near Interstate 5 and Highway 12 in California on December 2, 2025. Earlier that morning, Morales allegedly stabbed and killed his 11-year-old son at their home in Elk Grove, an act witnessed live by the boy’s mother via home security cameras. Morales then fled the scene, leading police on the chase that ended with a crash and an officer-involved shooting where multiple law enforcement officers fired at him. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Morales had been fired in February 2024 after an investigation discovered he lied about using drugs confiscated from suspects. Morales overdosed on fentanyl while on duty in 2023 and was revived with Narcan before resigning. Authorities have not confirmed if Morales fired shots during the police pursuit. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting incident, while two deputies involved have been placed on administrative leave pending outcomes.

The child’s six-year-old sister was unharmed and evaluated at a hospital. The Elk Grove Police Department is investigating the child’s homicide. The tragic incident prompted counselors to be made available to local school children affected by the loss. This case combines family tragedy, law enforcement involvement, and ongoing investigations into the circumstances of Morales’ dismissal and fatal encounter with police.

This information provides details about the incident, the background of Morales, and the ongoing official responses surrounding the killing of the son and subsequent officer-involved shooting of Morales.
