After they "got into it" on the way home after the burial, the wife fatally stabbed her husband: Sheriff

Sheila Ann Curtis, 56, faces second-degree murder charges in Shelby County, Tennessee, for allegedly stabbing her husband Derrick Curtis, also 56, three times in the left leg before he crashed his Chevrolet Colorado on November 29, 2025, leading to his death.

Incident Details

Shelby County Sheriff’s deputies responded around 9:55 p.m. to a two-vehicle crash with injuries at Houston Levee Road and Macon Road in Cordova, finding Derrick’s truck off the road in a ditch; he had profuse bleeding from pre-crash stab wounds inconsistent with the minor collision damage, including a large blood pool on the driver’s floorboard. Paramedics noted Derrick told them his wife stabbed him; he was rushed to Regional One Health in Memphis but pronounced dead shortly after arrival, with the stabs contributing to the crash.

Investigation and Arrest

The SCSO Violent Crimes Unit determined the injuries were non-accidental, identifying Sheila as the assailant after she denied involvement in an interview, claiming Derrick dropped her off post-argument from a funeral before crashing alone. A family member picked up Sheila and her mother two miles from the scene; her mother said the couple had “gotten into it,” and the pair had a domestic violence history. Sheila was arrested the next day and held on $500,000 bond at Shelby County Jail, with a bond hearing scheduled for December 3, 2025.
