A 58-year-old Maryland man is accused of pointing a rifle out his window at a group of 12-year-old carolers the week before Thanksgiving.

Paul Susie has been charged with first- and second-degree assault, as well as “related charges,” according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department. The incident happened on Saturday.

Around 8:30 p.m. on that weekend night, three 12-year-old girls “were going door-to-door” in Annapolis’ 1700 block of Point No Point Drive. They were singing Christmas carols.

According to criminal records acquired by local source WTOP, the girls were standing on Susie’s front porch when one of them knocked twice on his door and announced that they were caroling. Susie was inside his house, perhaps looking out a bay window.

The guy “pointed a firearm at them from a window inside of his residence,” according to the police agency. Officers arrived later and arrested Susie. He apparently admitted to being involved, stating he had consumed at least one alcoholic beverage.

Authorities reported that Susie’s stoop was well-lit at the time. His firearm, a.40-caliber Glock handgun for which he had a permit, was recovered. However, he was apparently charged with operating a pistol while intoxicated.

Annapolis, Maryland’s capital, is located on Chesapeake Bay, approximately 30 miles east of Washington, D.C.
