A defendant in Ohio is accused of murdering a man, dismembering his body, and then driving around town in his work vehicle as officials looked for the victim.
Martel Huggins, 33, has been charged with murder and assault, according to jail records obtained by Law&Crime. He was booked into the Lucas County Corrections Center on Tuesday.
Malicai Calder, 27, was reported missing over the weekend in Toledo. Officers with the Toledo Police Department began hunting for him, and on Tuesday, they discovered his work vehicle driving through the city.
Police intercepted the vehicle on Mulberry Drive and pulled over the driver. It was not Calder. Rather, it was a different man, subsequently identified as Huggins, and officers discovered incriminating evidence, according to local ABC affiliate WTVG.
Calder’s body parts were supposedly found inside the truck.
The man reportedly suffered stab and bullet wounds to the head. The county coroner’s office declared his death a homicide and stated that his body had been mutilated.
Officers went to Calder’s house, where they discovered a dog barking, the shower running, and the TV turned on. His vehicle has also been reported missing.
It’s unknown if Calder and Huggins had a relationship before the victim died. Authorities have not announced any possible motive.
Huggins is being kept in jail on a $1 million bond and is due in court next month.
