A 17-year-old allegedly shot and killed his ex-girlfriend before turning the pistol on himself in Long Island, according to authorities.

On Wednesday, Nov. 26, the 17-year-old guy, who remains anonymous due to his age, shot Emily Finn, 18, at his house in Nesconset, N.Y. He then allegedly shot himself in the face, prompting his parents to phone 911, according to a Suffolk County Police statement obtained by PEOPLE.

Finn died at the site around 11:10 a.m. local time. She lived in West Sayville, New York. According to the SCPD, the 17-year-old was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical but stable condition. He will be charged with murder in the second degree and arraigned at a later date.”

Finn graduated from Sayville High School this June, according to Greater Long Island. Suffolk County Det. Lt. Kevin Beyrer, commanding officer of the department’s homicide branch, told the source that Finn went to the shooter’s house to recover his stuff following a split.
