A Florida woman was charged with attempted murder after allegedly attacking her boyfriend with a machete following an argument over cellphone photos.
Liz Frechel, 49, was arrested on Friday and taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she is being held without bond. According to an arrest complaint acquired by Law&Crime, Frechel and her boyfriend were enjoying dinner at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant in Miami on Thursday night when he allegedly discovered images on her phone of her hugging and holding hands with another man.
He stormed out of the restaurant, leaving Frechel alone. Then, authorities alleged, he returned to her residence to return some of her possessions.
According to the arrest report, the boyfriend intended to place Frechel’s belongings on an air conditioning unit outside the flat before going home. However, he realized he had left his car keys with the stuff, so he needed to return. Frechel had already collected her belongings and carried them inside, and when he attempted to enter the apartment, she tried to slam the door on him.
The boyfriend eventually entered and discovered his keys on her bed. According to police, once he entered Frechel’s bedroom, she “locked him inside the bedroom against his will.” She then allegedly warned him, “You will not go anywhere, you son of a b—.” “You are going to pay.” Police say Frechel then walked into her closet and grabbed out a machete.
According to the police report, the boyfriend attempted to grab his keys and flee, but Frechel allegedly swiped the machete at him, slicing his right elbow while shouting, “I’m going to kill you, son of a b—!” Fearing for his life, the lover fled the apartment and returned to his car. He drove himself to the hospital and was treated for a “deep laceration” on his elbow.
Police spoke with another resident of the apartment building where Frechel lived, who reported hearing “a female yelling, items being thrown, and later heard a male crying” before seeing a man flee Frechel’s unit. According to the complaint, officers attempted to reach Frechel while she was in the residence but were unsuccessful.
Officers returned to Frechel’s apartment on Friday to execute a search warrant. Frechel was arrested, and police claim she refused to give a statement despite being read her rights. She faced charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. Her next court date is set for November 25.
