A shooting at an Illinois restaurant has killed two people and left one in serious condition.
Police responded to multiple 911 reports about a gunshot at Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora at 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 22, according to an Aurora Police Department (APD) release. When authorities arrived, they discovered three victims “suffering from gunshot wounds.”
One of the victims, thought to be the shooter, was pronounced dead at the site. Two more casualties, a male and a woman, were taken to a local hospital. The woman was eventually pronounced deceased, and the male is in critical condition, according to APD.
According to APD, preliminary evidence indicates that “all three individuals knew each other” and that the shooting seemed to be a “domestic violence-related incident.” The Kane County Coroner’s Office will conduct autopsies on the two deceased individuals, “confirming the identity of the victim and offender” and releasing their names “at a later time.”
“Our hearts are heavy tonight.” Members of our community were senselessly shot while merely attempting to enjoy a night out, and the weight of that violence is felt throughout the city,” Chief Matt Thomas said in a statement, according to the release. “On behalf of the Aurora Police Department, I want the victims and their families to know we are standing with you and doing everything we can to make sure you have answers.”
PEOPLE attempted to contact APD and the Kane County Coroner’s Office for comment on Sunday, Nov. 23, but did not receive an immediate response.
According to CBS News, witnesses reported that the incident occurred when the band Beyond the Blonde was performing at the restaurant. According to the publication, restaurant patrons fled after hearing guns fired.
On November 23, Beyond the Blonde posted a message on their Facebook page about the incident, saying they are “still processing” the tragedy.
“Last night was terrible, sad, and quite shocking. The shooting at Two Brothers has shook us to the core. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed in such senseless violence. “No one should ever have to face such fear or heartbreak,” they stated in their statement.
They said, “We’re still processing a wide range of feelings, including disbelief, sadness, gratitude for safety, and tremendous compassion for everyone affected. “Hold your loved ones close today.”
