The FBI confirms that the gunman who attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump worked alone.

The gunman who attempted to assassinate President Donald Trump at a campaign event in July 2024 was acting alone, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

According to Fox News, the law enforcement organization confirmed that no relationship was identified between Thomas Matthew Crooks, the 20-year-old suspect, and any other individuals inside or outside the United States in connection with the attempted shooting of the president.

PEOPLE has contacted the FBI for comment.

The “lengthy, behind-the-curtain rundown of the probe,” as Fox News defined it, was delivered by FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, as well as an unidentified person. (Fox News was the only publication that received the information.)

The group stated that 35 accounts associated with Crooks were investigated in the case, including his bank and social media pages.

According to Fox News, the FBI was also able to access Crooks’ “foreign” email accounts from Germany and Belgium “within days of the attack,” in order to trace his potential contacts with any other suspects in the assassination attempt.

“When there was a tip about an overseas connection — the two times we became aware of the foreign accounts — the FBI contacted foreign governments. “They quickly provided the full contents of the accounts,” the unnamed senior official told Fox News.

“There is no foreign involvement in this case. There is no anybody, either outside or inside the United States, who has had any part in guiding, inspiring, or assisting him in any manner — even foreign governments,” they added.

According to an FBI official, more than 1,000 interviews were conducted, and over 2,000 public tips were processed in connection with the case, Fox News reported.

More than ten search warrants were executed and 100 subpoenas were filed, according to the source. Investigators also seized 13 electronic devices related with Crooks and his family members for study in the case, which was handled by 485 FBI agents.

The FBI verified that there was “no evidence anywhere in this investigation that shows there was any foreign individual, foreign government, or foreign organization tied to Thomas Crooks,” according to Fox News.

Bongino told Fox News that previous investigators in the case supplied false information about Crooks’ online conduct. He stated that Crooks had posted anti-government comments online years before the incident.

“There is a limited record of him making political statements and advocating for political violence in 2019 and 2020,” Bongino told the newspaper.

Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, was confirmed by the FBI as the guy who opened fire on a Trump rally in Butler last summer.

Crooks was fatally shot by a Secret Service sniper. Corey Comperatore, 50, was killed at the event, while two others, David Dutch and James Copenhaver, were badly injured. Meanwhile, Trump, 79, had a gunshot wound to the upper right ear.

According to the FBI, Crooks attempted to assassinate with a.223 rifle that his father had access to.

The incident resulted in the firing of eight bullets, with a further 22 unfired rounds and numerous unused magazines located in Crooks’ truck on a ballistic vest, Fox News reports.

The FBI also uncovered an undetonated explosive device inside Crooks’ vehicle, according to the site.

Regarding the motive for the shooting, the senior official told Fox News, “Crooks left no manifesto. He didn’t have any seepage. He made no indication that he was going to do this or why he did.
