Charleston, South Carolina – Demonstrators plan to meet on Saturday to condemn recent unfair incidents and demand government responsibility.
“We’ve had it with ICE snatching people and deporting them without due process. “We’ve had enough of the federal government brutally withholding SNAP funds,” said the organizers of ‘Remove the Regime.”
The group intends to meet at 24 Calhoun Street around 10 a.m., then travel south on Meeting Street to Charleston City Hall for a 3.8-mile trip.
Initially, the city denied organizer Bonnie Cleaveland’s protest permission, but following talks, they approved the current route, which is slated for Saturday, she said.
Cleaveland organized the protest in part because the city did not have a huge turnout at the October “No Kings” protests.
“More than 38,000 South Carolinians came out for No Kings in October,” she stated. “Members of the public asked why we didn’t have a Charleston protest, and the lack of a protest in Charleston was embarrassing.”
