A Georgia lady was charged with murder after police discovered her toddler daughter’s lifeless body propped up in a recliner.
Shannen Grimes, 42, is in the Fulton County Jail after being charged with two charges of murder, cruelty to children, possessing a handgun or knife while committing a felony, and tampering with evidence. Before being put into jail on Tuesday, she was treated in a hospital for an attempted suicide.
According to Sandy Springs Police, Grimes’ sister contacted 911 on November 14 after Grimes told her she attempted suicide. Police arrived at Grimes’ house in the Laurel Grove condominiums and discovered her with a cut to her wrist, as well as her 11-year-old daughter Genesis, who had died and was sitting up in a recliner.
According to arrest warrants acquired by local television station WANF, Grimes’ sister allowed officers into her condo, where they saw Grimes lying on the couch, bleeding from “a cut to at least one of her wrists.” Officers discovered Genesis in a recliner near the sofa, with a “blanket or towel” covering her legs. She was pronounced dead on the scene.
When police questioned Grimes what happened to her kid, she allegedly said, “I happened.”
After additional inspection, authorities discovered at least four puncture wounds on the girl’s “neck and shoulder” area, but “little to no blood.” Police claimed Genesis seemed to have been “cleaned and positioned in the recliner.”
According to police, blood was discovered throughout the house, including objects that appeared to have been used to “clean or capture some of the blood,” “blood-soaked paper towels,” garbage cans, and a bucket in the living room where Genesis’ body was located. Knives that seemed to be stained with blood were discovered near the kitchen sink.
The warrant states that a box in Grimes’ bedroom contained blood-soaked items and bedding, including a garment with “holes around the neck and shoulder area.”
While in the ambulance on her way to the hospital, Grimes allegedly acknowledged to authorities that she stabbed her daughter in the neck.
Grimes was booked into the Fulton County Jail after receiving hospital treatment, but no bond amount was recorded.
