Summerville, South Carolina — Three suspects, one adult and two adolescents, were detained early Sunday morning during a car break-in at an apartment complex in Summerville.
Officers from the North Charleston Police Department responded to Old Glory Lane soon after 2 a.m. when a caller reported seeing three individuals yanking on automobile door handles and hearing breaking glass.
As authorities approached the complex’s main entrance, they noticed a vehicle come to a halt, perform a U-turn, and speed away. According to authorities, cops stationed at a secondary entry on Wescott Boulevard were fast to get this information.
Moments later, the same vehicle was seen attempting to depart via this secondary route. Officers performed a traffic check and discovered that the passengers matched the caller’s description, including ski masks, police said. Officers located a window punch, gloves, and more ski masks in the vehicle. A later investigation of the area revealed that at least one vehicle had been broken into.
Jason White, 19, of Summerville, has been charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and malicious damage to personal property. He was transferred to the Dorchester County Detention Center.
The two juvenile suspects were charged with tampering with a motor vehicle and released to their guardians under custody conditions.
