Charleston County, South Carolina – While the longest government shutdown in US history is nearing to an end, the consequences for many families could be long-term.
A collaborative effort in Charleston County is attempting to assist families who are experiencing food insecurity as a result of the lengthy shutdown, which has left federal workers unpaid and essential food assistance payments suspended.
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Charleston County School District, and Charleston County Public Library are extending a joint food drive until Wednesday, Nov. 26, shortly before Thanksgiving, to help offer locals with food options.
Anyone who may donate is asked to bring non-perishable food items to one of the seven Charleston County Library locations mentioned below.
Items required include canned meals, peanut butter, rice, and noodles.
