According to authorities, a Florida child charged with murdering his mother photographed her corpse and forwarded it to a friend.

Derek Rosa was 13 when he reportedly stabbed his 39-year-old mother, Irina Garcia, 46 times while she slept in her bed in their Hialeah apartment on October 12, 2023.

Prosecutors have detailed Rosa’s alleged activities in a document filed by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, which PEOPLE acquired.

According to the petition, Rosa documented the killing and notified at least one person about it before calling the police.

“Shortly after, the Defendant photographed his mother’s body in a pool of blood, alongside a firearm. “The Defendant also took a’selfie’ with his hand covered in blood,” the motion read.

According to the petition, Rosa called a friend in another state less than ten minutes after shooting those images.

According to the motion, during that first chat, Rosa allegedly told his friend that he would be sending images and asked for the friend’s opinion.

In the motion, prosecutors stated that Rosa sent photographs of his mother’s corpse in a pool of blood, a gun, and his blood-soaked hand to the friend.

Prosecutors said in the motion that the buddy initially thought Rosa was kidding after getting those photographs, and when he realized they were real, he “alternated between shock and disbelief.”

The stabbing on October 12 was important, according to prosecutors in the motion. According to the motion, Rosa was obsessed with Jason Voorhees, the hockey-masked monster from the Friday the 13th horror franchise who frequently used a machete to murder his victims.

According to WTVJ, Rosa told pals before the stabbing that he was planning to dress up as Jason for Halloween.

Rosa reported the murder in a 911 call, during which he allegedly confessed and described his actions to the operator.

Police quickly arrived at his apartment and took Rosa into jail, noting in their report that there were bloody tracks purportedly matching Rosa’s leading from the bedroom to the front door.

This new motion is in reaction to a defense request for discovery, which prosecutors say is an attempt to implicate Garcia’s husband, Frank Ramos, as an alternative suspect.

According to prosecutors, the spouse was in Georgia when the killing occurred.

The victim’s newborn daughter was asleep in the same room as her mother when the homicide occurred, but she was unhurt.

Rosa pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, and a court hearing on the defense’s request to present Ramos as an alternative suspect is scheduled for later this month.
