Jennifer Pan’s 2010 murder plot against her parents devastated her family, particularly brother Felix.
Jennifer and Felix’s parents, father Huei Hann Pan and mother Bich Ha Pan, relocated from Vietnam to Canada in search of a better life. According to Toronto Life, Hann and Bich were strict, pushing their children academically and prohibiting Jennifer from dating until after high school.
Jennifer concealed her on-and-off-again boyfriend, Daniel Wong, from her family, falsified her report cards, and enrolled in a prominent institution in Toronto. Jennifer’s connection with her parents deteriorated once she revealed her secrets. Jennifer, who was 24 at the time, hired three hitmen to murder her parents in 2010. Bich killed in the attack, but Hann survived.
Felix was away from home at the time, studying at McMaster University. He testified at Jennifer’s trial, admitting that he believed her falsehoods until she was caught.
Jennifer was sentenced to two life terms in prison with no chance of parole for 25 years in 2015, one for her mother’s murder and the other for her father’s attempted murder, according to the Toronto Star.
Felix and Hann prepared victim impact statements, which were read on the day she was sentenced. They also secured restraining orders against Jennifer, which ban her from contacting them.
