Charleston County, South Carolina – The South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close the westbound lanes of I-26 to repair a broken overpass.
The closure will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, and should reopen the following morning once the repairs are completed.
SCDOT officials said the closure will allow contractors to work safely on the Eagle Drive bridge over I-26, which was damaged earlier this month after being struck by an over-height truck.
“As part of this repair work, SCDOT is asking that drivers avoid I-26 on Saturday night and use alternate routes,” according to government officials.
All westbound vehicles between I-526 and Ashley Phosphate Road will take Rivers Avenue as a detour. SCDOT will use digital message boards and other diversion signage to notify drivers of the closure.
