The South Carolina Highway Patrol said that two people were killed in a recent incident involving a scooter and a car.

Tyrone C. Tyler and Audrey Hill, both of Midlands, were killed in the Friday morning crash, according to Orangeburg County Coroner Sean Fogle. According to the coroner’s office, Tyler, a 55-year-old Orangeburg resident, drove the moped and Hill, a 70-year-old from Clarendon County’s Manning region, was the passenger.

Tyler was driving the 2024 JBLC moped south on US 301/Five Chop Road around 2:25 a.m., according to Highway Patrol Master Trooper Mitchell Ridgeway. According to Ridgeway, near the intersection with Jernigan Drive, the scooter was rear-ended by a 2021 Kia car driving south on Five Chop Road.

Ridgeway said the Kia driver was unharmed, and no further injuries were recorded.

There was no indication on whether either of the moped riders wore helmets or if the Kia driver wore a seat belt.

The cause of the car’s collision with the moped was unknown, but the Highway Patrol is still investigating the crash.
