Goose Creek, South Carolina, is embarking on several transformative infrastructure projects in 2025 under the leadership of Mayor Greg Habib. These initiatives aim to support the city’s rapid growth, improve safety, enhance community amenities, and stimulate economic development.
Uptown Development at Carnes Crossroads
A signature project is the $50 million Uptown development, a public-private partnership with Urban Core Advisors. This large-scale mixed-use development will include over 100,000 square feet of commercial space featuring restaurants, retail, and flexible leasing areas. Designed with high-end architecture and enhanced walkability, Uptown aims to become a vibrant destination and community hub. Public green spaces called “The Promenade” and “Grand Lawn” will host events, concerts, and community activities year-round. Phase I is set to break ground by the end of 2025, with commercial spaces opening in early 2026 and full completion planned by 2026.
Roadway and Safety Improvements
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has initiated significant safety and infrastructure upgrades on Red Bank Road and the intersection at Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard. The project includes:
Widening roads with added lanes and multi-use paths
Installing concrete medians with improved drainage
Adding sidewalks and pedestrian-friendly enhancements
Resurfacing asphalt and upgrading traffic signals
These improvements, scheduled to finish by August 2026, will ease congestion, enhance motorist and pedestrian safety, and accommodate the city’s growing population.
Expanded Public Facilities and Community Amenities
As part of a broader city infrastructure strategy:
New fire stations and public safety buildings are planned or under construction to keep pace with urban growth.
The Assembly at Goose Creek, a new multi-purpose venue, will open by the end of 2026, designed to host weddings, banquets, and City Council meetings.
The neighboring Daning Amphitheater already hosts large-scale concerts and events, adding cultural vibrancy.
Central Creek Park and John McCants Veterans Park provide inclusive recreational spaces and honor local heritage.
The Creek Collective arts venue supports local artists and community engagement.
Plans are underway for additional municipal office expansions to support city services efficiently.
Positive Community Impact
Mayor Habib highlighted the overwhelmingly positive reception to these projects, noting the increased daily use of parks and the popularity of cultural events. These infrastructure projects are designed to support long-term growth while improving quality of life and strengthening community identity.
Goose Creek’s 2025 infrastructure projects reflect a clear commitment to balanced growth through public-private partnerships, significant investment in transport and safety, enhanced recreational and cultural facilities, and expanded public services. These efforts will help make Goose Creek an even more attractive place to live, work, and play for current and future residents.
