Goose Creek plans to improve public safety after recent events through several key initiatives:
- Major road and intersection safety improvements on Red Bank Road and its intersection with Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard are underway, including concrete medians, drainage upgrades, new sidewalks, pedestrian enhancements, asphalt resurfacing, traffic signals, and signage. These projects are expected to complete by August 2026 to improve traffic flow and reduce accidents.
- Berkeley County has completed a $25 million phase of Henry E. Brown Jr. Boulevard improvements in Goose Creek, widening lanes, adding multi-use paths, raised medians, and dedicated turn lanes to enhance motorist and pedestrian safety and ease congestion.
- A new Goose Creek Magistrate & Public Safety Substation opened in May 2025 at 653 Red Bank Road, housing magistrate courts, an EMS substation with 24/7 ambulance services, and a sheriff’s office substation to increase law enforcement presence and emergency response capability.
- Federal funding grants support the Goose Creek Police Department in expanding child passenger safety programs by training certified technicians to conduct community safety events and provide child safety seats to vulnerable populations.
- Enforcement efforts include specialized traffic enforcement units focusing on speed control, DUI crackdowns, occupant protection enforcement, and community involvement forums to reduce traffic-related crashes and fatalities.
These combined infrastructure upgrades, public safety facilities, grant-supported programs, and enforcement initiatives demonstrate Goose Creek’s comprehensive approach to enhancing public safety in 2025 and beyond.
