Following a house inspection in Hartsville, 7 children were taken in emergency custody, and three were charged

Three people were arrested in Darlington County following a Department of Social Services (DSS) investigation involving multiple children.

Incident Details

On April 24, deputies responded to a Swift Creek Road residence in Hartsville to assist DSS with an inspection warrant. After reviewing the living conditions, seven children were placed into Emergency Protective Custody. Officials said individuals at the scene attempted to prevent deputies from taking the children.

Arrests and Charges

Jonathan Miner Senior and James Scavenicky were arrested at the scene for hindering officers and resisting arrest. Miner was also charged with three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. On May 15, Janessa Evans was charged with four counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.

Current Status

Bond was denied for all three, and they are being held at the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center. The Darlington County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation is ongoing.
