A west Charlotte man was arrested Sunday following a shooting that left one person dead in the Paw Creek Village neighborhood.

Arrest and Charges

Police identified the suspect as 43-year-old Lionel Smith. He was arrested and charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. Smith is being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office without bond.

Shooting Details

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on May 17 on Paw Club Drive. Firefighters were first on the scene and found a person with gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as 50-year-old Odell Davis, did not survive.

Authorities said the shooting followed an argument between Smith and Davis, who knew each other. A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police major said, “An argument or altercation just can’t end in gunfire… there’s no turning back from that.”
