The incident occurred in North Charleston on the 1100 block of Leary Street.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, officers were called to the area just before 4 a.m. after reports of a verbal dispute.

Police say the suspect, William Fischer Smith, 56, had been locked out of the home during the argument.
