A Michigan man has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole after killing a Facebook Marketplace seller during a meeting to buy car parts.
Court records show that 31-year-old Omar Brogdon was convicted in April on charges including second-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and firearm-related offenses.
The case is connected to the death of 38-year-old Orhan Hosic, who was shot and killed in July 2024.
Car Parts Meeting Turned Violent
According to reports, the incident happened on July 6, 2024, at Hosic’s apartment in Michigan.
Hosic had reportedly arranged to sell two Corvette seats to Brogdon through Facebook Marketplace. Investigators later found the seats inside the Camaro driven by Brogdon.
Authorities said the meeting became violent after the two men argued over luxury car brands, specifically Mercedes and BMW.
The argument eventually escalated into a deadly confrontation.
Defendant Claimed He Was Scared
During sentencing on May 18, Brogdon expressed regret over the incident.
He described the shooting as an “unfortunate event” and claimed he felt scared and cornered during the confrontation.
Despite his statement, the court sentenced him to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Investigators Used Digital and Physical Evidence
Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton said investigators gathered strong evidence linking Brogdon to the crime.
Officials traced communication between the two men through Facebook Marketplace, which showed how they arranged the meeting.
A witness also reportedly saw Brogdon’s orange Camaro parked at the victim’s residence. Investigators later connected the vehicle to Brogdon at a Detroit address.
Authorities additionally discovered that Hosic’s phone was answered at a motel in the Detroit area after the killing, which further supported the investigation.
Sheriff Explains “Red Herring” Investigation Strategy
Sheriff Chris Swanson said investigators intentionally used a “red herring” strategy during the case.
According to Swanson, investigators avoided revealing key leads early in the investigation, which prevented Brogdon from destroying important evidence.
Officials believe this tactic helped preserve both physical and digital evidence used during the trial.
Victim’s Family Shares Emotional Statement
During the sentencing hearing, Hosic’s stepmother delivered an emotional victim impact statement.
She spoke about the difficulties Hosic faced throughout his life, including surviving childhood cancer and dealing with facial disfigurement.
She told Brogdon that he had shot the victim in the only eye he could see from and said the actions would remain with him forever.
