"Wanting to kill her": The family of a Shelby woman who was struck during an arrest speaks out

A Shelby police officer has been fired after allegedly punching 34-year-old Cherrie Moore multiple times. The incident, caught on a doorbell camera, went viral and sparked protests calling for accountability.

Victim’s Family Responds

Moore’s family expressed relief at the officer’s termination. Her father, Gregory Moore, said, “This man is supposed to protect, but he chose to… God was there for her.” Protesters and family members also demanded that the officer be charged.

Incident Details

The video shows Moore asking her father for help as the officer repeatedly struck her. She was released from jail Friday but still faces charges of burglary, resisting arrest, and assault on an officer.

Investigation Ongoing

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the arrest. City officials announced the firing of the officer on Facebook Live but did not disclose his name or tenure with the department.
