Three teenagers in Wisconsin have been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 35‑year‑old David Krause, who was killed after accepting a ride from them during a rainstorm on the night of April 14 in Milwaukee.
What Happened
Krause had been out celebrating “414 Day” — a local event in Milwaukee — when a severe rainstorm hit. According to court records and local news reporting:
- Krause sought shelter at a gas station after getting caught in the storm.
- Realizing he had left his keys in his girlfriend’s car, he called her and said he was “getting a ride from some kids.”
- Prosecutors say Krause then got into a car with three teenagers and they drove a short distance — about three blocks.
- Surveillance footage later showed Krause running out of the vehicle toward a bar, followed by two of the teens.
- A struggle ensued between Krause and the two teens, and one of the teens allegedly fired a gun at him.
- The suspects then reportedly fled the scene in the vehicle, which investigators allege was stolen.
Krause was found in an alley with fatal gunshot wounds and died from his injuries.
Arrests and Charges
Two weeks after the killing, all three suspects were charged with felony murder and armed robbery:
- One of the suspects is just 14 years old. After an initial release, authorities confirmed he was rearrested and taken back into custody on April 27.
- The other two suspects are also juveniles, and specific information about them has not been released due to their age.
Family Reaction
Before the arrests were made, Krause’s family spoke with local media. His sister said her brother’s trusting nature was part of who he was. “My brother’s Achilles heel was that he blindly trusted people,” she told CBS affiliate WDJT. “He had so much faith in humanity… and that’s the reason why he’s not here today.”
Ongoing Case
The case remains under investigation as prosecutors pursue charges against all three juveniles. Court proceedings and any additional details about the suspects’ identities and motivations are expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
