A 40-year-old man in the Bronx was killed Friday night in a devastating hit-and-run incident that left him in the street, where he was fatally struck by a passing SUV. The incident occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on East 138th Street and Bruckner Boulevard, and authorities are still investigating the circumstances.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the victim was crossing the road outside of the marked crosswalk when a truck struck him, sending him crashing to the pavement. The truck fled the scene without stopping, leaving the man lying in the street.
Shortly after the truck hit the victim, a 61-year-old driver traveling in a 2015 Honda CR-V in the same direction as the truck had no time to avoid the man on the ground and struck him. The driver of the CR-V stopped and remained at the scene after the collision.
Efforts to Save the Victim
Paramedics arrived quickly after a 911 call was made and rushed the victim to Lincoln Hospital. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Witnesses reported seeing a crutch and bloodstains in the middle of the roadway, adding to the horror of the scene.
Investigation and Ongoing Search
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD is continuing to investigate both the truck that fled and the events that led to the victim’s death. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the hit-and-run truck to come forward.
This tragic incident has left the community in shock, with local officials and residents calling for greater safety measures on busy streets to prevent further pedestrian fatalities.
