The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two men after finding around two pounds of meth during a traffic stop on Monday. The suspects are now facing serious drug charges.
Who Was Arrested?
Authorities identified the two men as Ryan Carl Newman, 35, from Summerville, and Preston Goldie Long, 35, from Ladson. Both were charged with trafficking methamphetamine weighing 400 grams or more. In addition, Long is also facing a charge for violating his probation from the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.
How the Arrest Happened
The arrests came after a traffic stop by deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force. K-9 officers pulled over a vehicle in connection with a drug investigation. Newman and Long were inside the vehicle during the stop.
When deputies started talking to the men, they noticed suspicious behavior, which raised concerns about possible illegal activity. Even though the men did not give permission to search the car, a K-9 officer walked around the vehicle and detected something unusual.
What Did Police Find?
The police then carried out a legal search based on the K-9 alert and discovered what appeared to be about two pounds of methamphetamine. The drug was collected as evidence, and both suspects were arrested on the spot.
Where Are the Suspects Now?
Ryan Newman and Preston Long are currently being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center as they await further legal proceedings.
