A woman was rescued from a submerged vehicle in Mount Pleasant after suffering a medical emergency that caused her to lose control of her car.
Vehicle Crashes Into Pond
The incident happened on Saturday in the 2000 block of North Highway 17 after a vehicle veered off the road and entered a pond.
When officers arrived, they found the vehicle partially submerged with the driver trapped inside.
Officers Rescue Driver
Mount Pleasant police officers immediately entered the water and worked to reach the driver.
They were able to break into the vehicle, remove the woman, and bring her safely to shore. Authorities said she was breathing when rescued but was not alert.
Driver Hospitalized
Emergency crews transported the woman to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Additional rescue personnel later searched the pond and confirmed there were no other occupants inside the vehicle.
Medical Emergency Caused Crash
According to medical staff and investigators, the crash was caused by a sudden medical emergency that left the driver unresponsive.
Police later confirmed the woman had suffered a seizure, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
