A Massachusetts wedding photographer is recovering after he was allegedly stabbed during a wedding reception in Maine in what he described as an unprovoked attack.
Photographer Stabbed at Wedding Reception
Donald Halsing, 26, was working at a wedding reception with his fiancée and business partner, Ashley Wall, on May 23 at Kingsley Campground in Raymond, Maine.
According to Halsing, a man approached him and asked questions about his photography business. Moments later, the man allegedly pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed him in the abdomen.
Emergency Surgery Required
Halsing suffered serious injuries and was rushed to Maine Medical Center, where he underwent emergency surgery.
A GoFundMe page created for the couple said he suffered two lacerations, including an injury to his liver. He is now recovering at home but remains unable to work.
Suspect Arrested
Police said witnesses identified the suspect as Andrew Manderson, 26. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.
Authorities have not publicly shared a motive for the alleged attack.
Wedding Plans Affected
The incident has also impacted Halsing and Wall’s own wedding plans. The couple, who are scheduled to marry in September, have had to reduce their wedding budget and cancel several planned services due to medical expenses and lost income.
Long Recovery Ahead
Halsing said the attack was terrifying and has left him traumatised. He told local media he feared for his life during the incident and is still searching for answers about why it happened.
As he continues to recover, friends and supporters have rallied around the couple through fundraising efforts to help cover medical bills and living expenses.
