A Kentucky father is facing serious charges after leaving his baby daughter alone in a bathtub while he was on his phone. The incident took place in Covington and has raised concerns about child safety.
Baby Left Unattended in Bathtub
Police said they were called on Tuesday, May 26, after a report that an infant was not breathing. The baby girl had been left in a bathtub filled with water for about five minutes. She was rushed to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
Father Admits Distraction
The baby’s father, 20-year-old Seffan Mederious, told police he was in another room scrolling on his phone. When he returned, he found his daughter floating in the water.
Father Fled the Scene
Authorities said Mederious went to a relative’s home after the incident instead of staying at the apartment. He was later found hiding and did not check on the baby at the hospital.
Legal Charges
Mederious has been charged with wanton endangerment and criminal abuse. He appeared in court on May 27, and the case will go before a grand jury. Kenton County officials stressed that parents must not put children at risk of serious injury or death.
